Registered Charity No 1050698 The Importance of Good Driving Practice! Points to Consider 1) A good place to begin is to ask the question WHY?  Why is good driving practice important?  You might think of several reasons for this, or to argue with this statement. 2) What would be a good reason for improving driving skills?  Could one be that young drivers between the ages of 17 - 23 years are most at risk of death or serious injury?  You might look at the statistics that prove this; for example Drivers between the ages of 17 and 21 account for 16% of the UK driving population, but are directly responsible for 34% of serious injury and fatal accidents (IAM website http://www.drivesurvive.co.uk/media-facts-and-figures.asp) 3) A car is a highly complex piece of machinery and in the hands of an unskilled and thoughtless driver can become a lethal weapon : is this a factor? 4.)  What is the cost to you as a young driver, in cash and emotion terms, of dealing with the consequences of collisions : could this be a good reason for improving driving skills? 5.)  With the high risk of death or serious injury in a collision, for young passengers , could developing good driving skills  for young drivers be a responsible action?
