When you have taken and passed the IAM's Advanced Driving Test, you are recommended for Full Membership of the IAM.
How do I go about taking the IAM Advanced Test?
The best way to take the IAM Advanced Test (and with the greatest degree of success) is to go through one of the many local IAM Groups. This is an ideal way to prepare for the Test because these Groups all have charitable aims, they know precisely what the examiner is expecting and can prepare you for it. The people who help you are all unpaid volunteers who want to improve road safety.
The "Skill For Life" Advanced Driving/Motorcycling programme includes the following :-
A copy of the IAM's Advanced Driving/Motorcycling Manual.
Associate membership of one of the many local IAM Groups.
A place on one of their courses to prepare for the IAM Test.
The IAM Advanced Test.
Your First Years Membership of the IAM after passing the Advanced Test.
I've heard this sort of thing is expensive!
You may have heard figures in the order of £200, £300, or even more. However, don't believe what people tell you. Before we give you the full details of the actual cost, ask yourself how much your "No Claims Bonus" discount and your "Policy Excess" is (i.e. how much of any claim on your vehicle insurance you have to pay yourself) for your current vehicle Insurance. Bear that figure in mind.
The full maximum costs give the truth of the matter. You could have passed the IAM Advanced Test and have become an Advanced Motorist and a Member of the IAM for no more than £85.
Yes - no more than £85!
You can purchase the "Skill for Life" Advanced Driving programme on-line or download a pre-printed Enrolment Form in Adobe Acrobat pdf file format to fill in and send off (FREEPOST address) to join.
