Our Motoring Group publishes a newsletter on a regular basis. It is an important means of
letting members know what is going on in the world of Advanced Driving in and around
Redditch and Bromsgrove and elsewhere.
This interesting article was submitted to local newspapers in August 2011.
'Redditch and Bromsgrove Advanced Motorists, Local
Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists celebrated an
unusual double success as mother and son drivers Helen
and Michael Strange passed their advanced driving tests
together. The local group have never had a family double
like this previously and it may be a first for the region.
Helen said "As Michael learned to drive he was
encouraged to supplement his learning and having passed
his driving test it seemed logical to progress to the
advanced test. I was keen to have a go myself and so we
took the Institute of Advanced Motorists Skills For Life
course together. I am really grateful to our observer,
Richard Reynolds, for his enthusiasm, expertise and generosity whilst helping us to improve our
driving." Local IAM president, Inspector Ian Joseph said: "We are delighted that Helen and
Michael have both achieved success with the Skills for Life programme, designed to assist all
motorists become better and safer drivers. Whilst we are accustomed to achieving success with
drivers undertaking the programme it is very unusual for a mother and son team
to undertake the course together. I have no doubt the skills they have learned
will be of benefit to them both on the roads and would encourage anyone
interested in improving their driving to make contact with Redditch and
